Der ganz große Traum (2011)

Directed by Sebastian Grobler

Certificate U

Running time 109 minutes approx.

This film is based on a true story, which took place in Germany in 1874.  Teacher Konrad Koch arrives back from studying in England and is appointed as an English teacher at a strictly disciplinarian school in Braunschweig.  When he introduces his pupils to football, a game hitherto unknown in Germany, he meets with stiff opposition from colleagues and parents who find it goes against the ethos and morals of the school.  Koch and his pupils are determined to carry on, but when he is dismissed it is not clear that this will be possible.  With Daniel Brühl (Konrad Koch), Burghard Hauβner (der Schuldirektor), Adrian Moore (Joost Bornstedt), Theo Trebs (Felix Hartung) and Till Valentin Winter (Otto Schricker).
