About the film
Der Untergang (2006)
Directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel
Running time 142 minutes approx.
The film depicts the last weeks of Hitler’s dictatorship, when he was hiding in a bunker in Berlin as it came under heavy fire and his defeat was obviously imminent. Soldiers and followers begin to desert in ever greater numbers, but a small band of supporters remains with him, some even choosing to go to their deaths rather than surrender. The film focuses particularly on the young Munich girl who worked as Hitler’s secretary throughout this period. With Bruno Ganz (Hitler) and Alexandra Maria Lara (Traudl Junge).
